The Andean Community (Comunidad Andina, CAN) is an international organization whose mission is to achieve social and economic development by strengthening Andean integration. It comprises four Andean states: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
The space for tripartite social dialogue results from a specific international convention, the Convenio Simón Rodríguez, which acknowledges the need for coordination of policies on labour issues in the framework of CAN.
The Advisory Council of Ministers of Labor and the Andean Business and Labor Advisory Councils participate in concertation processes also involving Andean business and union representatives. The two councils, which bring together workers' organizations from member countries on the one hand and employers' organizations on the other hand, aim to defend the interests of their members before differrent CAN’s bodies. They also meet at least once a year to adopt joint recommendations. Within the framework of tripartite social dialogue specialized committees can also be set up.
