Key objectives

“This agreement modifies the commitments, originally signed in the 2000 code of conduct, in line with developments in our relations and also to address some of the challenges we have faced together over the years. It takes into account the changes in corporate social responsibility as set out in the UNO guidelines on human rights pertaining to companies. These clearly state that companies have to respect human rights at all levels and guarantee that human rights are respected along the supply chain.” (Unofficial translation)

Implementation and dissemination

“Telefónica accepts the responsibility to execute this agreement in all its entities. It will inform all its managers so they can respect the principles of the agreement and all employees will be informed of the principles.” (Unofficial agreement)

Review and monitoring

“A group of ten comprising 5 representatives from Telefónica and 5 members of UNI (2 from the Spanish unions, 2 from The Americas regional offices, and 1 from UNI global head office) will be put in place to ensure the implementation of the agreement and it will keep both the President of Telefónica and the Secretary General of UNI informed as to progress.” (Unofficial translation)

Dispute settlement and sanctions

“Any differences in opinion over the interpretation of the application of this agreement will be examined jointly and recommendations for their resolution will be put to the parties in question.”
“In the event of the parties being unable to resolve their differences over application of the agreement and following efforts made by the group to do so, the party in receipt of the request for resolution of the conflict will furnish a full written response within a 30 days.” (Unofficial translation)
