Contribution of social partners to agenda of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is an agreement among eight countries of the Horn of Africa: Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda. IGAD's main objectives concern food security, drought mitigation, sustainable development of natural resources, economic cooperation and regional integration, socio-economic development, peace, and security.

At regional level, a confederation of trade unions called the Horn of Africa Confederation of Trade Unions (HACTU) was created in 2018, followed by the creation of a regional employer’s organization, the Confederation of IGAD Employers (CIE) in 2019, to develop a partnership with IGAD. Since then, several workshops organized, gathered IGAD departments, HACTU, and CIE representatives to address the question of labour migration. In March 2023, both organizations were invited to attend the second Labour Migrations Ministerial Conference on Labour, Employment, and Labour Migration of the IGAD

The Consultative Committee of the Central American Integration System (CC-SICA)

The Central American Integration System (Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana, or SICA) is the institutional framework for Central American Regional Integration created by the States of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. Belize and the Dominican Republic subsequently joined as full members in 2000 2013, respectively. Its fundamental objective is to promote policy integration  in [KP1] Central America and position it as a region of peace, freedom, democracy, and development.

The Consultative Committee of the Central American Integration System (Comité Consultivo del Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana, CC-SICA) is the body allowing for participation of civil society organizations, regionally organized within the framework of the Central American integration process. The CC-SICA brings together 30 Central American regional organizations/networks with a presence in at least four of SICA's member countries.

Employers' and workers' organizations organized at the regional level are also represented in the CC-SICA (see the composition here). This Committee advises the General Secretariat on the organization's policy and programs.
