Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) initiatives

Overview

A large number of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) policies and initiatives are in place in many companies to fulfil their responsibility to respect human rights. CSR/RBC initiatives have evolved in conjunction with international instruments, particularly the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). Governments are increasingly playing a role in providing frameworks and incentives for CSR/RBC (for example, through legislation and national action plans on business and human rights) to support the implementation of human rights due diligence. Several CSR and RBC initiatives are developed or deployed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, including workers’ organizations. The present International Labour Organization (ILO) repository focuses only on those CSR/RBC initiatives in which workers’ organizations hold a seat in the various governance structures and/or working groups of these initiatives.
